Wellbeing & Life
1:1 sessions for when life gets complicated
Performing well and feeling well are closely connected. I’m passionate about working with you as a whole person, not solely as an athlete or performer. How you feel in yourself day-to-day can be affected by the demands of sport or high performance, as well as life circumstances right now, including relationships, family, health, finances.
Wellbeing is about understanding what helps you to feel healthy, balanced, connected and grounded. We can use our sessions to talk through the wider challenges you’re facing, make sense of what’s going on, and ways to navigate life’s curveballs.

Difficult emotions
Making sense of and managing emotions such as frustration, anger, or feeling low.

Recovery
Making genuine time and space to mentally switch off.

Managing periods of transition, such as changes in team environment.
How does wellbeing fit into sport and performance psychology?
01
Understanding the wider picture
Wellbeing is often naturally woven into our work together. As we explore what’s going on in your sport or performance environment, it’s natural to find that different areas of life are over-lapping. For example, it might be difficult to perform freely if you’re exhausted from juggling different family, work or wider life demands. A time of change such as injury or moving team or role, may challenge your identity and confidence. Or perhaps a drive for high standards that once motivated you now leaves you feeling over-whelmed and under pressure.
02
Finding a way forward
Our sessions create a space to pause, reflect, and make sense of what’s going on for you. We’ll usually initially talk through what’s happening in life and what, if anything, you’d like to be different. From there, we’ll work together to understand the patterns of thoughts, emotions and actions that might be keeping you stuck, and identify practical ways forward. I’ll be your sounding board, and I will also draw on evidence-based psychological approaches and offer ideas, exercises, or strategies for you to try between sessions.
How is this different from counselling or mental health support?
01
A different focus
Wellbeing support within sport and performance psychology is different from counselling or clinical mental health support. It’s not simply about having someone listen, and it’s not focused on diagnosing or treating mental health conditions.
02
Space and practical strategies
Our sessions give you both a place to talk and reflect, as well as approaches and strategies to help you look after your wellbeing. The aim is to help you understand yourself better and develop skills that support both performing well and feeling well.
03
Finding the right support
I cannot diagnose or treat mental health conditions such as depression, clinical anxiety, eating disorders, or trauma symptoms. If within our sessions it sounds like you would benefit from more specialist mental health support, I’m very happy to support you in thinking about what a helpful next step could be.
